Compressed Air Energy Storage : State-of-the-Art of Lined Rock Cavern

As the market for renewable integration is expected to grow, there an increasing interest in excavated rock caverns as a solution overcome limitations of conventional CAES that use solution-mined salt caverns. One major challenges ensuring air tightness and pressure resistance performance lined-rock (LRCs). To address this, we reviewed research on several key aspects, including tightness, ground uplifting, structural stability LRC, excavation damaged zone (EDZ), thermal-hydraulic-mechanical (T-H-M) interactions. The technical implications sensitivity analysis various design factors affect LRCs were investigated. We reliability-based LRC using probabilistic approach evaluated mechanical hydraulic effects EDZ. Additionally, performed energy balance based T-H-M coupled determined optimal operation strategy CAES.
